She was just about to drive back home when a man with a knife burst into her car which led to a confrontation and a shocking admission.
A woman was stabbed to death in a parking garage of a luxury apartment building in Sunrise, Florida, very early on May 28, 2025 and she was later identified as a 27-year-old hairstylist from Florida.
The police named Hailey Hosford as the victim; she owned a business and ran yoga retreats in Boca Raton.

Officials said the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. at The Retreat at Sawgrass Village which is on 3000 NW 130th Avenue. Hosford was just leaving her rental car when Jackson Julian Sagesse Jr., aged 21, came up to her with a knife.

As he was nearing the vehicle, Hosford tried to access the car from the rear door, yet things were prevented by Sagesse, who allegedly opened the door. There was a violent incident after that and Sagesse was seen on camera repeatedly reaching inside the car and pretending to make stabs.

A friend of Hosford’s came back to the location where the attack took place from an apartment he was staying in. A disagreement between the two resulted in violence and Sagesse allegedly stabbed the friend in the throat.
Even with an injury, the male victim escaped and told the police what had happened. Investigators came upon him outside the front of the building and he was moved for treatment due to a puncture wound to his throat.

Police found Hosford inside the black Mercedes-Benz sedan which was parked on the first floor of the garage. She was found to have numerous stab wounds in her throat and neck and she died at 2:01 a.m.
A steak knife that looked like those from the set was recovered from the front seat of the car. Sagesse was discovered to have had another steak knife in his pocket after the investigation.
The arrest affidavit reports that Sagesse was easily identified and he was taken into custody minutes later at his mother’s apartment.
Both the suspect from the surveillance video and him were seen in the same clothes. Investigators saw blood on the back door of the apartment and two knives were found to be missing from the kitchen.

Following his Miranda rights being explained, Sagesse confessed he had stabbed the victim. He claimed, as reported by the police, walking away after having killed someone.
The officers said the person claimed he was protecting himself but hadn’t clarified what actual threat he faced. Sagesse said he intended to work out at the gym when he discovered the lights on in the parking garage.

He explained that he left the house again to get a knife for defence. He has been accused of premeditated murder and attempted first-degree murder and is now being kept in the Broward County Jail without bond.
Friends and clients knew Hosford from her Fort Lauderdale salon, where she was well involved in different things.

No person should go through that experience. It is extremely shocking, very sad and very scary for everyone, said Erica Rheingold, who knew the victim. Her life centered around her career, her business and traveling. Yoga retreats, all the different types of therapy—those kinds of activities.
Sagesse decided not to come before the judge at his bond hearing the day after being arrested.
A close friend named Aubrey Rosebrock also talked about the accident. WSVN was told by the family that Hosford was outside her apartment, waiting for a friend to return and saw the suspect approaching.
The video recording revealed that the suspect was carrying what looked like a metal object at the time he went toward the car. Rosebrock said Hosford got back into the car, trying to hide, but Murphy attacked her before she was able to close the door.
She saw the man approaching, charging her and she didn’t have time to even close the door before he got in. Rosebrock said there was no reason or motive for it. “She was a strong-willed person, I believe she also faced fear,” said the reporter.
He shared his last text from Hosford which read: “I just wanted you to know that it’s sunny, the sky is blue, the water is turquoise and that I love you so very much and you mean everything to me.”

I want to make sure the world understands, she is not a Jane Doe and she had a name and a life. There are two sides, evil and good and we fell behind in the good. Lost were the good, said Rosebrock.
Her community is still going through the pain of Hosford’s death. Facebook posts from Aline Lima describe her as always having “enjoyable and radiant” energy.
She called the fact that the girl was murdered “heartbreaking” and pointed out that a young teacher and hairstylist lost her life to extreme violence. The President followed with, “Let us remember her and justice shall be done.”
The Hosford family has received over $14,500 on a GoFundMe page which seeks to cover their funeral costs. It says that Hosford was a “kind, outgoing person whose happiness reached everyone.”
The family is asking people not to wear black, as Hosford was always smiling and happy. It is anticipated that friends from all over the globe will come to attend the service after arrangements have been made.
Her family and friends feel the impact of her death very strongly. With the investigation progressing and legal action taking place, those close to her think of a person whose life was filled with beauty, wellness and human connections and now, sadly, it has come to a close.
