It is a sad truth that a person will occasionally lose his/her sons and daughters in a horrible accident, cancer fight, or some other disease.
You may also want to get some tissues when you watch this one, the of 6-year-old Leland Shoemake because it is quite an emotional roller coaster.
Leland Shoemake was a typical 6-year-old boy of Williamson, Georgia. His mirthful spirit, quick wit, and artistic nature were all very much unforgettable.
At one year of his life, he could know his abc, numbers, color, shape, and 20 sight words. He was our small crazy nerd and we adored that about him. He liked going to school and he liked to learn. He was a fan of the history channel, the weather channel, documentaries and everything to do with history his mother, Amber Shoemake, posted on social media.
Had circumstances been otherwise his name had never come to our ears–but fate had other things in the mind of Leland.
Bacteria of the contracted brain
All this started in 2015 when Leland just got sick and rushed to the hospital quickly. His condition deteriorated very soon and it turned out soon that he had a brain infection by the amoeba Balamuthia mandrillaris. Nobody actually knew how the bacteria got into the possession of Leland but probably he must have contracted it during the outdoor play.
It is 7 years, without you and we are still not sure what to do. We tried it all at about this time of year and the only…

I had not dreamed that to be the thing that would take him away.
First, doctors did not understand what was wrong with Leland but assumed that it must have been meningitis. But later on investigation they also found that he was really having an amebic infection of his brain.
His mom, reported on the GoFundme page created by the family, has been experiencing bad headaches, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea as well as dizziness and the eyes are now crossed, he cannot focus on anything without his eyes moving and seeing double.
Leland struggled to live but he died on September 25, 2015.
When his parents went home to the hospital where they gave final bids to their beloved son, they were engulfed with sorrow. But amongst the raging sorrow their eyes squinted upon an object lying on the living room table of the family.
His last message to his parents was one that Leland, with his adorable penchant of dropping notes and drawings to them before, left behind.
it was written: Stil (sic) with you Thank you mom/thank you dad Love.’ He also traced red heart which had three words, mom, dad and love.

There can hardly be an understanding of what kind of meaning and solace it had to give to bereaved parents at such a difficult period. This note became a sour kind of reminder of their love and bond they had, and Leland brought some relief in the midst of their devastating loss.
His mother said she has no knowledge about the time when he wrote it but it can be noted that he has always been a special child.
The Leland Shoemake Foundation has quoted the whole story with your convenience and given below:
Amber is this girl. This is the only post I will make here sometime soon.
I was excessively protective with Leland and did everything I could to protect him. The only thing that he liked very much was to be in the dust. I could not possibly envision that will the thing that will take him out of me. I lived in his world. He has given me a motherhood. We fought so much to be able to get him. He was born premature however; he was screaming healthy. Since early in life, he was intelligent. At the age of a year, he had learned his abc, numbers, colors, shapes and 20 sight words. He was our small crazy nerd and we adored that about him. He liked going to school and he liked to learn.
He adored the history channel, the weather channel, documentaries and anything that had to do with history. He was interested in vessels such as the titanic as well as in knowing things such as the WWII. He ideal. His favorite flick was jaws. His fanatic director was Steven Spielberg. Adam Sandler was his favorite actor too. He adored his brother and his family. He used to join any party. He smiled like he was city lighting. He was the smartest, best little boy and the smarter he was, the caringest and loving.
He would have made a lot in life. Without Leland we would hardly have any friends here in this county. He did not know a stranger and he loved everybody. This was my greatest fear all my life and this one was realized. A child should never have to be buried by his or her loved ones. I would say all the time I hope I will be the first one going since I do not think I can ever survive something like this.
Even now it does not appear with reality to me.
Here I am sitting here thinking about the things he would say and quotes of movies that he would remind me of. Just as in dazed and confused with the phrase, check ya later. Or you will need a bigger boat as in jaws. Or his million things that he used to say that was Billy Madison.
He was the focus of this family and a light of our life.
I am already putting on the number of days to I can see his sweet face again, and his beautiful voice.
It is the note that we found on the table in the living room when Tim and I came home the first time to get him clothes to bury him in. We do not know when he wrote it but you can guess he was always a special child.
We are going to love you always Leland. Sleep tight all 7/8 don,t let the bed bugs bite!
No parent would ever want to bury his or her own child because it is the most hurting experience. Still, among the innumerable heartaches, there is our hope that we can continue to share the Leland story making sure that no one forgets him.
We should remember him as a great young boy that he was and his memory should remind each one of us to enjoy every day of our lives as we never know what can happen the next minute to change life.
